The Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine visited the production site of Rovertech demining equipment.

Japan and Ukraine Join Forces for Humanitarian Demining

Kyiv, April 10, 2025 — The Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, visited the production facilities of the Ukrainian company Rovertech, which has developed a unique subclass of demining machines. This visit marks an important step in the collaboration between Ukraine and Japan in the field of humanitarian demining.

During the meeting, Rovertech CEO Bohdan Zmyi and Ambassador Masashi Nakagome discussed Ukraine’s current needs in clearing territories of explosive remnants of war. Rovertech presented its flagship product — the ground-based robotic complex “Zmyi,” which is significantly more effective than traditional demining methods. The system has already been certified for humanitarian demining and has received NATO codification.

“We are grateful to Japan for its support and willingness to assist Ukraine in humanitarian demining. Rovertech is also considering the possibility of implementing Japanese engines, known for their reliability—one of the key characteristics for humanitarian demining,” — said Borys Drozhak, co-founder of Rovertech.

Japan actively supports humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine. Last year, Japan provided Nikken machines equipped with rotary cutters for the safe disposal of mines and plans to make new deliveries in 2025. In addition, Japan facilitates the training of Ukrainian bomb disposal experts in Cambodia and Japan to enhance the exchange of experience.

The parties also discussed the prospects of establishing joint ventures between Ukrainian and Japanese companies. Combining Rovertech’s innovative developments with the advanced expertise of Japanese manufacturers, particularly in engine production, could significantly accelerate the demining of Ukrainian lands and open new markets for both countries.

“Possible cooperation with Japan is not just about exchanging technologies but about a shared goal: restoring safety to Ukrainian communities and ensuring global food security,” — added Bohdan Zmyi.
