Zmiy Droid 12.7: Ministry of Defense Approves New Ground Robotic System for Use in Ukraine’s Defense Forces

The Zmiy Droid 12.7 ground robotic system, developed with the participation of Rovertech, has been officially approved for operation within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The system is an armored strike platform equipped with a heavy machine gun and designed to operate in environments too dangerous for personnel.

Zmiy Droid 12.7 combines mobility, protection, and firepower within a single platform. Its primary functions include:

  • fire support during offensive and defensive operations;

  • position protection and suppression tasks;

  • engaging enemy personnel and lightly armored vehicles;

  • operating in environments with a high threat from FPV drones.

The system integrates the “Zmiy” ground robotic platform, developed by Rovertech, with the Wolly 12.7 remote weapon station designed by DevDroid.

“We are pleased with the effective collaboration with DevDroid. When teams with practical experience and a shared vision work together, it leads to both speed and quality in development,” says Borys Drozhak, Co-Founder of Rovertech.

The platform features armored protection and is adapted to operate in challenging terrain, from damaged urban infrastructure to off-road environments. Its control system allows the operator to simultaneously manage movement and weapon operation, reducing the time between target detection and engagement.

“We build systems for missions where it is dangerous for people to operate. The solution must be effective but without unnecessary complexity. If a product is difficult to use, it will not work in real conditions. That’s why we designed Zmiy Droid 12.7 to be as practical as possible,” says Vasyl Korenovskyi, Director of Rovertech.

The platform was developed with the tactical needs of frontline units in mind and is designed for sustained operation in high-risk environments.
