Søren Ludwig, a Danish resident whose wife is Ukrainian, launched a grassroots campaign to raise funds for the purchase of a Ukrainian-made demining drone called “Zmiiy,” developed by the engineering company Rovertech. His initiative united people from Denmark, Norway, and diplomatic circles to support humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine.
In March 2025, Søren Ludwig and his wife initiated a donation drive to fund the innovative Zmiiy drone, designed to clear landmines in war-affected areas. Norwegian engineer Roy Baarsen joined the cause, while the Danish Consul Association generously financed half of the drone’s total cost. Most importantly, dozens of ordinary citizens from Denmark and Norway took part in the campaign, contributing what they could to support Ukraine directly.
“We were looking for a way to help directly, without intermediaries. I wanted our support to go straight to the people creating life-saving solutions in Ukraine,” said Søren Ludwig.
“This isn’t just a donation — it’s a statement of solidarity and belief in Ukrainian engineers and the future of their country.”
About the “Zmiiy” Demining Drone
Zmiiy is a ground-based unmanned drone developed by Ukrainian company Rovertech for remote-controlled demining operations. It is capable of withstanding explosions from powerful devices, including anti-tank mines, and is built to operate in complex and hazardous environments.
