In times of war, when preserving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and restoring territories is critically important, effective demining solutions become a priority. Rovertech is actively working on developing a next-generation mine-clearing drone — GRCS “Zmiy” (Zmiy). This device is capable of changing the economics of demining for the front and humanitarian missions. The main goal of the company is to reduce the cost of demining by at least 20 times, minimize the risks of sapper losses, and ensure the effective use of rotor mine-clearing drones on the battlefield.
Why Is a New Mine-Clearing Drone Needed?
Modern demining systems are bulky, expensive, and require large maintenance costs, limiting their effectiveness. In Ukraine, this is why the most common method of demining remains the work of sapper teams. The use of rotor mine-clearing drones on the battlefield has been impossible until now, as traditional machines are noticeable targets for the enemy and can block the infantry’s path in case of a breakdown.
Technical Advantages of GRCS “Zmiy”
GRCS “Zmiy” aims to solve these problems by becoming a light, modular, and versatile device. According to the team, the new equipment will prepare infantry assaults, improving the efficiency of mine reconnaissance during counter offensives. The key advantage of KNR Zmiy is its cost: it is 40 times lower than large machines performing similar functions, and it has extremely high durability. Additional applications may include evacuating the wounded, supplying ammunition, and mining.
The creation of GRCS “Zmiy” was inspired by military engineers, at whose request the first prototype of the device was created, ensuring battlefield effectiveness. In collaboration with military units such as Azov, the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade (SAB), and the 710 Separate Guard Brigade of the State Special Transport Service, Rovertech has started field tests to simulate combat conditions.
Rovertech continues to work on improving its technologies, promoting safe and cost-effective demining. GRCS “Zmiy” is expected to become an innovation in combat demining and a significant step forward in restoring Ukraine’s economic potential.
