In times of war, the return and protection of territories strewn with explosive devices have become a top priority for Ukraine. To address this issue, renowned historian Timothy Snyder and actor Mark Hamill, who is actively engaged in humanitarian activities, have joined forces with UNITED24. They are launching an ambitious fundraising campaign. Their goal is to provide Ukraine with 30 modern demining robots. This is not only an important step for safety but also a symbol of global solidarity.
“Zmiy” v1.2: A Technological Breakthrough in Demining
The “Zmiy” mine-clearing machine is the complete development of three Ukrainian engineers – Borys Drozhak, Bohdan Zmiy, and Vasyl Korenyovsky. It is innovative, mobile, and efficient. Certified and successfully tested in real conditions, “Zmiy” impresses with its ability to detect and neutralize both anti-personnel and anti-tank mines. Unlike traditional heavy mine-clearing machines, “Zmiy” is light and portable, allowing it to operate in areas inaccessible to large machines. Additionally, the device has the following characteristics:
- Withstands FPV drone explosions
- Quickly extinguishes fires
- Processes up to 2.5 hectares of land daily
- Maintains communication with the operator at a distance of up to 3 kilometers.
These capabilities make the drone an indispensable tool for ensuring safety on the battlefield. The use of “Zmiy” will be a significant step in accelerating the demining process due to its high efficiency.

Thanks to the efforts of renowned personalities like Timothy Snyder and Mark Hamill, as well as the UNITED24 initiative, the “Zmiy” project has received significant international support. During a live demonstration of the “Zmiy” v1.2 capabilities conducted by the Rovertech team, participants saw how the new technology could change the course of demining.
Support from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, led by Mykhailo Fedorov, and the Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko, also contributes to the development of this initiative. Thanks to the combined efforts of the government, engineers, and international partners, “Zmiy” will help Ukraine restore safety to its territories and become an example for other countries dealing with the problem of landmines.
